If you’re planning on getting married at Crested Butte’s Mountain Wedding Garden, congrats on both your engagement and your beautiful choice in wedding venue! There are so many great spaces to be married in Crested Butte, all with such incredible vistas. Today I’ll talk about what to keep in mind if you’re getting married at the garden, and why I love this venue as a wedding photographer serving Crested Butte!

Getting Ready

Crested Butte’s Mountain Wedding Garden is just that – a garden. For the getting ready part of your day, most couples book a nearby vacation rental on the mountain. Many of the rentals are large cabins that could fit all of your wedding party, too, which makes the morning really convenient for both you and your photo/video team!

Ceremony

Ceremonies at the Mountain Wedding Garden almost all happen in the garden space, but that doesn’t mean you’re limited to one standard set-up! I’ve seen couples utilize the rock path as their “aisle” with the wedding party standing in a semicircle surrounded by the flowers. Some couples have also held the ceremony in the lush grass beside that space, with the mountains as their backdrop. Whatever you choose, your guests will be treated to a beautiful scene! The garden can seat up to 200 people, which makes a great value for bigger weddings. One of the great things about getting married at the Mountain Wedding Garden is the natural beauty of the venue. You can decorate the area if you choose, or just let the mountains and garden speak for themselves!

Portraits

Just like the decoration of the venue, the natural beauty of this venue makes portrait time so easy. We can accomplish a lot of beautiful images right on site at the Mountain Wedding Garden, or hit some great spots nearby for a little different views! I love exploring the property and nearby trailheads, or even heading out to BLM and National Forest lands on either side of the garden if there’s enough time in the plans for the day. We can really capture some unique vistas, from other mountain ranges to the river and creeks running nearby!

Reception

Most receptions I’ve had couples at the Mountain Wedding Garden host have happened in the picnic pavilion on the park property. The pavilion includes banquet tables and chairs in the rental and can seat about 100-125 people. I’d recommend renting a tent for the space that isn’t covered by the shelter, as it will likely become the dance floor and a stray storm or two is not uncommon in Crested Butte! Some couples may choose to simply elope with a ceremony at the garden and a “reception” dinner at a restaurant down on Elk Ave. instead, too.

Getting Married at Crested Butte’s Mountain Wedding Garden

Overall the Mountain Wedding Garden is one of Crested Butte’s cheaper wedding venues, without sacrificing the views! Bear in mind there are some accessibility issues as most of the entrances are strictly by stairs, but there are some creative ways to overcome that. The natural beauty of the space keeps decoration costs low, and your guests can stay right nearby or hop on the free town shuttle for a ride to a rental down the mountain too.
