Valentine’s Day is a special time for me. We got engaged a few days before V-Day last year! My parents also got engaged on Valentine’s Day. Admittedly, it’s not the most unique time to get engaged; we’re joined by thousands of couples celebrating their promise to one another this time of year!

As it’s the year we are getting married, and the time we are celebrating the anniversary of our engagement, I want to do a giveaway for my Western Slope couples!

What’s the giveaway, then?

You read that right, five lucky winners will win free engagement sessions!

My sweet Damon and I have been together for 3 1/2 amazing years. Every year around our anniversary we go to the Colorado Monument and throw pennies that were made in our birth year over the cliff at cold shivers point and make a wish. We make it an event, even taking our two sons with us to participate in this tradition. This last august (2015) Damon called my boss to see if he would let me off of work early (without my knowledge) and my boss agreed, telling me that some of my coworkers were coming in to do “inventory”. Very fishy to say the least as it was neither the beginning of the month, nor the end of the year, and in all of the years that i have worked this job we have never done inventory on a Sunday night during business hours. I went with it and called Damon to tell him that i would be off work early. He sweetly suggested that we go on date night as we have both been working long hours. He then called me to tell me that he lost his keys in Kohls and he was very panicked. He was supposed to pick me up, but i offered to rescue him instead (sometimes us princesses have to take matters into our own hands and rescue the prince for the greater good 😉 ). He found his keys as i was driving and i met him at dinner. He seemed nervous but we chatted through appetizers. His sister called just as the main dish was hitting the table saying that her car wouldnt start and she needed a jump….she was on the monument (lightbulb!!). We rushed through our meal and drove straight up to the monument to save her. He was sighing heavily through the entire drive. When we got there he even opened the hood of her car and looked around to make it more convincing (he knows very little about cars so it was a big give away). He offered to give her a ride and she said “sure, but you should come look at where i was taking pictures over here, its beautiful”. As we walked down the path i could see rose petals, candles, and Christmas lights, and i stated giggling. A local musician was playing acoustic guitar and serenading us with Ed Sheerans Thinking Out Loud. It was magical. There was a huge sign saying marry me Kari spelled out in Pennies and my decision to be with this romantic, funny, perfect man was again affirmed. I knew from the first date that this was the man that i was going to marry, and he made that night more than my wildest dreams. We danced, he got down on one knee and we promised eachother forever for the millionth time since we met. I am so blessed to have found the one person who truly gets me through and through and i cant wait to marry this man in 2016!!

What a fun idea for a contest, and congratulations Amanda on your engagement!! 🙂

My fiancé, Cody, and I have been together for 5 ½ years (it will be 6 years in March), and we just got engaged this past summer. I didn’t expect August 6 to be anything but an average Thursday, until Cody called me on my lunch break to advise me to be ready to go out when he got home, because he wanted to take me out somewhere special. Date nights during the workweek aren’t very common for us, but I decided not to question and just go with it. After he arrived home that night, he drove us to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (about 20 minutes from where we live, in Montrose), right as the sun was just starting to go down. The sunset offered a breathtaking view of the Black Canyon! We took photos and hiked around for a bit. As we chatted and enjoyed the scenery, Cody dropped to one knee, pulled a little white ring box out of his pocket, and popped the question!!! Of course, I ecstatically said “yes!!”! He slipped the beautiful ring on, and we headed back to town to tell our family and friends our exciting news! We plan to get married exactly a year later, on Saturday, August 6, 2016 in Montrose! 🙂

We got engaged on August 16th, 2015. I remember the date clearly because I had been gearing up all month to get ready for my new dream job as a nurse! So my mind was very preoccupied and I may or may not have been freaking out a little (or a lot). So on that Sunday morning, I was planning on sleeping in…but he had other plans; instead he pulled me out of bed before sunrise and told me to get dressed, ’cause we were going hiking! He was way too excited. I was still half-asleep. Since he was so excited, I got dressed with (very) few complaints and we headed up to the Monument. We listened to the radio on the way up; I specifically remember Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” playing and even though I’m not a huge fan of the song, I just jammed out to it (coincidence, yes?). As we kept going up and up, I realized he seemed to be looking for a certain spot. I tried to help him, but he insisted he knew where he was going. We eventually found it but he then wouldn’t leave the car…because there was a big giant black bird sitting on a fence post. He’s terrified of birds. Terrified. So that plan was nixed and we continued up until he found a different spot. The sun was starting to rise at this point and the spot looked out perfectly at the sunrise and the city down and far below. We stood towards the edge of the cliff. He then told me to close my eyes; I did and he put something in my hand. I opened my eyes and saw it was a little white stuffed bear holding a little fabric rose. I laughed and thought it was cute. He told me to close my eyes again; this time, my eyes were closed for a longgg time as I could hear him fidgeting around with something. When I opened them, he was on one knee, holding the little ring box with a beautiful opal ring, which was what I always wanted. Poor guy, I could tell he was nervous, his hands were shaking so bad 🙂 Of course I said yes! I was ecstatic. We then made a day out of it, making homemade waffles for breakfast and Skyping all of our families about the news. It was a simple but breathtaking experience. *I then learned he had gotten this idea because when we first started dating, I had planned a sunrise hike for his birthday. It was a perfect morning and it went great; however, it was also the day, he said, that he realized he wanted to be together forever. Now, five wonderful years after we started dating, we are getting married October 1st! 🙂

Hello my name is Jenidy. My fiance Jeremiah and I have been together for 8 years on February 12th. He proposed to me in May of 2015. Apl of his family was in twon and we were having a big family BBQ at his aunt’s house. Before dinner they had us all sit down for a family picture, but to my surprise theu were actually making a video. At the time I was 5 months pregnant and had no idea he was going to ask me to be his wife. He was the last one standing as we were all sitting on and around the couch for the “family photo” and he got down on his knee. He asked me to be with him for the rest of my life. I cried and said yes! Im so happy we have it on video. We are planning our wedding for April 22nd, 2017. We are very excited!
