I had the honor last weekend of capturing Mike and Amy’s spring elopement on the Colorado National Monument! With recent rainstorms passing through the valley, I had been keeping a close eye on the weather in the days leading up to their big day. While the clouds remained, we lucked out without a drop of rain!

Travel is such an integral part of Mike and Amy’s lives; which is part of what brought them across the state to the Colorado National Monument for their elopement! Mike proposed during a trip to Australia and New Zealand over Christmas 2017. He proposed at night, at the Sydney Opera house. Can you imagine anything more romantic?! Amy recalls, “It had just started to drizzle so there was nobody else around – it was perfect! We had talked about getting married before, but the proposal was still a surprise and I started crying happy tears almost immediately, so the rest is a little bit of a blur!”

The Colorado National Monument was a big highlight of their first trip together, and they realized it would be the perfect location to exchange their vows. They knew they wanted something intimate without all the stress of planning a big wedding, opting instead to elope and throw a casual party for friends in the summer. But they also wanted it to be meaningful and memorable, which is why they chose an officiated ceremony with formal attire, flowers, and photos to capture the moment! I’m definitely all about making sure you have photographs of important moments, and even elopements are significant!

Their flowers were beautiful, adding a pop of color to their elopement on the Colorado National Monument. Amy told me, “I love warm vibrant colors and our florist did a great job of looking at photos I sent for inspiration, incorporating the color of the dress selected by Mike’s daughter, and incorporating seasonal flowers, which was important to me.” Bride and Bloom Design absolutely killed it; they couldn’t have been more beautiful!

We spent some time after the ceremony to capture portraits of the group and Amy and Mike as newlyweds, exploring the area and marveling in the views that just never get old. These two told me their favorite thing is to laugh together, and that definitely reflected in their celebration. We laughed the whole time we adventured around the area, and I so enjoyed capturing the joy on their faces! Take a peek into some of my favorite moments from their elopement on the Colorado National Monument:
